About Ray

Ray enjoys tonal impressionist oil painting, the study of light, in the tradition of early Australian artists. He paints all genres and aims to keep his artworks simple and ‘painterly’, that is, portraying the image before him with as few brush strokes as needed to create a painting that pleases him.

He is a Fellow and Signatory member of the Victorian Artists Society (VAS) and has been painting seriously since the mid 1990s having received tuition from renowned VAS tutors for much of that time. In the last few years he has conducted a number of workshops in impressionist oil painting, demonstrations and undertaken relief teaching at the VAS.

Bio

Ray enjoys tonal impressionist oil painting, the study of light, in the tradition of early Australian artists, particularly those influenced by Max Meldrum.  He paints all genres (Still Life, Portraiture and En Pleinair).  He predominantly paints from life and paints what he sees.
